This piece is constructed from a single three minute recording of the bell tower at the Taizé Community in France. I initially had in mind the creation of a piece of music to accompany the Prayer Around the Cross segment of a special service that a friend of mine occasionally features at his church in Lansing. However, by the time that I finished, it had taken on a surprisingly intense quality that seemed ill-suited to the quiet contemplation of the atoning work of Jesus Christ. Indeed, this music sounds best when played as loudly as possible.

I’d still like to return to the original idea with different source material. We’ll see…
