***NOTE: DUE TO THE INITIAL MAXIMUM UPLOAD SIZE RESTRICTION IT WAS NECESSARY TO SPLIT THIS PIECE PRIOR TO PUBLICATION. THIS WILL BE AMENDED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

During the 2012 Super Bowl my brother participated in an impromptu Jam Session at the southwest corner of Meridian and Washington. I’m not sure how long they wound up playing but somewhere during that time this guy walked up to the mic and began rapping. About 40 seconds of his routine got captured and uploaded to YouTube. Not to give short shrift to the playing but what really attracts me to this clip is the sheer force of his delivery; it's like an avalanche.

For this piece, I broke the audio apart into segments by measure and aligned them all to the same length. For each measure I’d run two identical tracks in unison eight times and then move one of them ahead by an eighth note. This is basically the method developed by Reich for his piece Clapping Music but I’ve adapted it for use as an editing technique. Beneath this, each measure is stretched to the length of the entire process for its corresponding loop.

If anyone has any idea who this guy is I’d like to know so that I may credit him properly.

Radio Landscape

I live in Milwaukee, WI with my wife and our four children. The creation of music has long been an avocational pursuit of mine. The body of work that I offer under the moniker of Radio Landscape has obvious antecedents in American minimalism specifically and electronic music in general.
